Instead of Emotions, use Demographics to Make Decisions about some Future Events

For over the past 45 years, I have pondered, studied, written and talked about national security, agriculture energy, water and economics.  A child born in the United States today, we can well understand how much electricity, water, food and other energy they be consuming, and how much municipal waste and sewage they will generate at age 18, when they can vote in 2035.  Below are three site I find interesting to obtain data; 2035 is an interesting year.  Knowledge is not data.

In the August 11, 2013 edition of Forbes, an article put the cost of creating a new drug at $5 billion.  In 2015, the average cost required to bring a new, FDA approved medicine to patients was estimated to be $2.6 billion over the past decade (in 2013 dollars), including the cost of the many potential medicines that do not make it through to FDA approval - I have read estimated to be taking up to 18-years – again 2035.
What about something far less complex like nuclear energy to produce electricity, and create jobs?
In 1953, President Dwight D. Eisenhower and his advisors were convinced America could be energy independent and economically secure by using commercial nuclear power to produce electricity and thermal energy for various manufacturing processes.  That was 64-years ago and America is still importing energy and our national debt is about $20 trillion.  Today, our population is close to 315 million, in 1953 it was about 160 million – an increase of 156 million.  It almost doubled in 64-years.  A person born in 1953, will start receiving Social Security next year.  The per capita total federal debt today is about $211,362, and of course increasing.  Think about a child born today starting life by owing about $211,362 to the federal government.  To me that is insane.  Yet, I am one of the Americans who let it happen by voting for Jimmy Carter for President on Tuesday, November 2, 1976.  For the past 41-years I have been attempting to rectify my mistake by not studying.  So far, I have failed – in addition to our total debt, there are 94 million American people out of work.
We need not fail to become energy independent and economically secure from building commercial nuclear plants using existing American technology from our natural resources.  We have a gift from the recent Westinghouse bankruptcy, 25-years of squandering our wealth on solar and wind, being misled by low natural gas prices, and today having the NuScale Power Small Modular Reactor (SMR) design accepted by the NRC and the Hitachi-GE PRISM reactor now in play with the Southern Company – By people cooperating, we will have a Molten Salt Reactor (MSR) to consume partially-spent nuclear fuels from our fleet of Light Water Reactors (LWRs) i.e. Pressurized Water (PWR) and Boiling Water (BWR) Reactors          
So far, electing Donald Trump gives me hope we can turn America around from the brink of being but a footnote in history.
Yesterday, attending an Idaho LINE (Leadership in Nuclear Energy) Commission hearing gave me even more hope that Idaho is leading the way for America in commercial nuclear power development with the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) and a continuing path to a 3400 MW approved industrial site on the Big Willow Ranch in Payette County, Idaho.  Idaho is headed to be the “Strategic Hub” of electricity for the western United States.  Idaho leadership can reach out to Utah and Nevada to create a Tri-State Strategic Hub that goes beyond secure carbon free electricity to completing the back end of the nuclear fuel cycle.  Thus enabling the United States to regain its stature of the world leader in energy by exporting SMR’s to establish relationships that will last for over the next 100-years to help reduce the strife, disease, and poverty worldwide.  Knowledge can be had by using Mitopia® ( for cradle to grave projects.
